Why "Meraki"?


The word "Meraki" comes from the Greek language and its meaning refers to something very deep and beautiful.

"Meraki" means to do something with love, passion, soul and total commitment - to put a little bit of yourself into everything you do.

Who is behind the project


Behind Meraki Tours are Gábina and Darek, two passionate travellers who believe that exploring the world is the key to personal development and understanding the diversity of our planet.

"We see travel as a form of education that broadens our horizons and deepens our understanding of contexts, different cultures, and therefore life. We transform our experiences and knowledge into unique travel experiences that we love to share with others."

Our story


Our story began when we were still in college. We had already discovered our passion for travelling, even though we mostly hitchhiked back then. After graduation, we went to the US for six months. This trip not only deepened our desire to explore the world, but also showed us the importance of seeing the world from different perspectives.

When our two children, Christine and Patrick, were born, it was natural for us to take them on our travels from a young age. We believe that travel is one of the most important things we can give our children. By being exposed to different cultures and environments since childhood, they now understand the world in a broader context and have become passionate travellers themselves.

Setting up a travel agency was a natural outgrowth of our life experiences. We have travelled to many countries, made valuable friendships and contacts, and felt the need to share our knowledge and passion for travel with others.

Our goal is to inspire our clients to explore the world and understand its amazing diversity.

We know from personal experience how a deeper sense of purpose contributes to full travel satisfaction. For example, clients can visit animal rescues, local communities or schools to support conservation, the community and education. This aspect gives travel a deeper meaning and leaves a positive mark on both the destination and the hearts of the travellers.

The 3,6 kilometers long zipline through the misty forest in Santa Elena gave us a good dose of adrenaline, which my son liked the most. Of course we can't forget Tortuguero National Park, which was a beautiful place in the middle of nature. The boat ride on the canals there was unforgettable. We watched sloths hanging lazily in the trees, saw turtles, caimans, toucans and countless beautiful birds. In the end, we enjoyed Caribbean comfort.

Traveling around Costa Rica was enjoyable, whether we took a minibus or a boat. The accommodations always exceeded our expectations and the guides were well prepared, friendly and full of interesting information. Everything was perfectly balanced.

Paul did not feel like tourists but like welcome guests, after a quiet night in the desert under the stars, hiking in the mountains with spectacular natural views, swimming in the wadi or taking a boat trip around the coast.

The hotels were carefully chosen, each with its own charm - from the stylish mountain resort, oriental boutique hotels, to the magical Alila. A great tour, tailor-made for our group of friends. This trip combined a civilized stay in beautiful wineries with wine tastings, a challenging but amazing climb up Table Mountain in Cape Town and a wonderful stay in the wilderness of Botswana.

The absolute greatest and unique experience was spending the night in the wilderness under tents surrounded by elephants! Next time I would stay two nights instead of one.

The organization was great. In Botswana, we had to get used to longer crossings due to the nature trails, but again, we drove a perfectly equipped safari vehicle and were able to soak up the tranquility of the African wilderness.

As I am a nature lover, I would swap a day in the wineries for a longer trek in the Stellenbosch area. But of course that is very individual.

The trip to Namibia was a great surprise for us. We had a great experience running down the dunes, visiting a cheetah rescue station and seeing lots of wild animals. We saw almost every species of animal there was to see and in large herds. The atmosphere at the Kunene River and the visit to the local Himba tribe was absolutely unbeatable.
