The mosque is also famous for its Persian carpet, which at the time of its creation was the largest hand-woven carpet in the world, covering an area of 4,343 square metres. Completed in 2001, the mosque is a masterpiece of modern Islamic architecture, combining traditional Omani elements with innovative design.

Located right on the coast, the market is known for its labyrinthine structure of narrow alleys that are covered to protect visitors from the hot sun. Mutrah Souq is famous for its wide range of goods, including traditional Omani daggers (khanjar), jewellery, spices and incense.
Al Alam Royal Palace
Built in 1972, Al Alam Royal Palace serves as the official ceremonial palace of the Sultan of Oman. It is located in the historic part of Muscat and is surrounded by the Al Jalali and Al Mirani forts, which protect the entrance to the city's harbour. The palace is known for its distinctive blue and gold columns and modern architectural style, which contrasts with the surrounding historic buildings.
