5 Reasons to Have Your Trip Tailor-Made (and Stop Spending Your Evenings on Google Maps)
It is Thursday evening, you are sitting at your computer, and you have twenty tabs open in your browser. In one you are comparing hotels in Oman, in another you are reading a three-year-old review of a restaurant in Bali, and in a third you are trying to work out whether it is safe to drive in Morocco. Planning a holiday is slowly turning into a full-time job, and the feeling of rest that you associated with the trip has gone somewhere.
The truth is that everyone now has access to the same information. Google, blogs, social media. But access to information and the ability to turn it into a perfectly working trip full of meaningful experiences are two completely different things. This is where the travel designer comes in: a person who not only knows where to go, but above all knows how to get there, so that you get the most out of the trip and truly rest.
We have prepared five specific reasons to entrust the planning of your trip to Meraki Tours. No vague phrases, just real situations from our practice in which an individual approach turned a good holiday into an unforgettable experience.
1. You Will Save Dozens of Hours of Your Free Time
Planning a tailor-made trip to a more distant destination takes dozens of hours of your own research on average. An experienced travel designer does that work for you.
Imagine you are planning a two-week trip around Japan. You have to understand the train system (and decide whether the Japan Rail Pass is worth it), choose ryokans with traditional onsens, find restaurants where you will be served even without Japanese, and plan a route that makes sense both geographically and in terms of time. That means hours and hours of searching, comparing and deciding.
If you entrust this work to us, you will receive a complete itinerary based on personal experience. For example, we know that in Kyoto, because of the crowds of tourists, it is better to visit Fushimi Inari Shrine early in the morning, while the Gion district comes alive only after dark. We know which small family-run ryokan in Hakone has a view of Mount Fuji from its outdoor hot spring. And we know that between Tokyo and Osaka it is worth making a stop in Kanazawa, which most travellers miss.
Your time has value. Instead of evenings spent searching and looking at maps, you can spend it looking forward to the trip. You pack your suitcases, we take care of the rest.
2. You Will Gain Access to Places and Opportunities That Google Does Not Know
A travel designer works with local contacts, vetted guides and hidden places that you simply will not find in online search engines.
We have personally travelled to every destination we offer. And what is more important: in each of them we have a network of local contacts that we have been building for years. A private guide in Oman who takes you to a Bedouin camp under the stars of the Wahiba Sands desert, where you will not meet any other tourists, or a visit to a Berber family in the High Atlas mountains, a Moroccan feast and traditionally prepared mint tea.
These are not experiences you book through Booking.com. They are relationships that grew out of our own travels. Each of these contacts is carefully vetted and chosen because they share our philosophy: doing things with love and commitment.
A specific example? For a family with children in South Africa, we arranged a safari at sunrise. The children sipped hot chocolate while watching a herd of zebras. They will certainly never forget an experience like that.
3. You Have Certainty and 24/7 Support When Something Does Not Go to Plan
In unexpected situations, from cancelled flights to natural disasters, you have someone at hand who solves the problem for you.
Every experienced traveller knows that no trip goes exactly to plan. A flight is delayed, a hotel has a problem with a reservation, the security situation in a region changes. When you travel on your own, you are on your own. You call an international line, wait in a queue, and look for alternatives under stress.
When you travel with us, you have round-the-clock support. Just call or write and we will start working on a solution immediately. Recently we had clients in Japan for whom we had to change the whole programme within hours because of a typhoon. The change was carried out promptly, it did not spoil the travel experience for the clients, and in the end they liked the new programme better than the original one.
This certainty is especially valuable in destinations where you do not speak the local language, where cultural customs are different or where infrastructure is less predictable. Peace of mind is not a luxury, it is the foundation of a good travel experience.
4. The Trip Is Truly the Way You Imagine It
Unlike catalogue offers, a tailor-made trip is built around your interests, pace and preferences, not around what is currently trendy.
A catalogue tour offers you a hotel, a transfer and an excursion that everyone takes. A tailor-made trip starts somewhere completely different: with you. With what you like, what you have always wanted to experience, what pace you travel at and what fulfils you.
When a couple who love wine and architecture come to us, we do not suggest a classic round trip of Portugal. We offer them a week in the Alentejo region with visits to small wineries where the winemaker himself shows them around, and stops in small towns with Manueline architecture that most guidebooks say nothing about. We add dinner in a local restaurant where only locals go, and accommodation in a converted historic convent.
Similarly, for a family with teenagers in Costa Rica, instead of a standard resort we proposed a combination of a surf camp on the Pacific coast, a night trip to see turtles in Tortuguero and a one-day hike to the crater of the Arenal volcano. Every member of the family got what they wanted, because the whole itinerary was designed around what they enjoy.
5. You Will Often Save More Than You Pay for the Planning
Thanks to local contacts and deep knowledge of destinations, we can often negotiate a better price than you would find yourself.
Many travellers assume that a tailor-made trip is automatically more expensive than a holiday organised "on your own."
The reality is often surprising. Thanks to long-term relationships with local partners, hotels and guides, we can negotiate terms that are not normally available on booking portals. A boutique hotel in Oman that you will not even find on Booking.com will offer you a better room at a better price through us, because we know its owner personally and regularly bring guests to him.
And that is not all. We know which activities are worth their price and which are overpriced. We know when the best season in a given destination is (it does not always match what flight portals state). And we know how to combine transfers and accommodation so that you do not pay unnecessarily for night transfers or pointless connections.
An investment in individual planning therefore often pays back in the form of better prices, more sensible logistics and, above all, experiences for which you would otherwise pay significantly more, or which you would not have had at all.
F&Q
The price for preparing an itinerary depends on the scope of the trip, and we always tell you in advance. It most often ranges in the tens of thousands of Czech crowns, and it often pays for itself through the savings we negotiate for you.
It is ideal to start planning at least 4 to 12 months in advance, especially for more distant destinations or trips in the high season. For simpler itineraries, we can manage the preparation in a shorter time. The earlier we start, the more room we have to secure the best accommodation and experiences.
It depends on the nature of the planned trip. Flexibility is one of the main advantages of tailor-made travel, so a change of plan is possible in most cases, provided the logistics of the prepared route can accommodate it. For example, if a place impresses you so much that you want to stay one day longer, just call us and we will try to work the change into the rest of the itinerary. The price always depends on the scope of the changes. We are at your disposal throughout the trip.
We specialise primarily in destinations that we have travelled ourselves and where we have vetted local contacts. These include, for example, South Africa, Morocco, Vietnam, Japan, Norway, Namibia, Laos and Colombia. However, we will be happy to prepare a tailor-made trip outside our portfolio as well, because we have partners available all over the world. We travel only to safe countries where there are no armed conflicts. You can find the full list of destinations on the website in the Destinations section.
A catalogue tour offers a predefined programme for a large group of people. A tailor-made trip is designed exclusively for you, according to your interests, pace and budget. You decide on every detail, and we help you create an itinerary that exactly matches your idea of the ideal holiday.
